Tutorial Week: Day 3 -- Free Vector/Brushes
More vector freebies in today's tutorial recap! ^_^
For those unfamiliar with vectors, the only real difference between them and a typical (raster/bitmap) graphic is that they can be re-sized up or down without losing their precision or detail. Ever resized that photo and it came out looking kinda funky? That's because it just didn't know how to change and maintain itself like a vector does.
I use Adobe Illustrator CS3, but alot of people don't have access to it, so here's a free vector editor I've found on the web:
http://www.inkscape.org/
I'm not sure if it opens .ai documents (which is what I believe my vectors to this point are saved as), so if it doesn't, let me know, and I can re-release these in a more cross-compliant format. Name your format if you can! ^_^
Now, on to the goodies!
[[Download Radial + Teardrop Brushes]] *Note: The elephant was not made by me, he was a freebie from Shutterstock*
[[Download Sunburst Final Vector]] *This is the reult of the tutorial, which will be linked below. I later added the background effects in Photoshop*

This one was interesting, as the instructor shows in the end, the possibilities for this are endless now that you have the knowledge, radials can have all kinds of things in them, from complex designs to text!
This isn't too flashy, but it's a cool thing to know! ^_^

Tutorial Week Freebies (Vector)
So last night I crawled into bed just for a minute I told myself....I woke up about 10 hours later, instead of 10 or 20 minutes! Needless to say, this didn't get posted last night like I had intended, as it was my second tutorial for the day!
http://abduzeedo.com/swirl-mania-illustrator-photoshop <-- The tutorial link
My Examples: (click below each example to DL a freebie vector pack!)
[[Download Running Man Swirl Vector]] *This was an attempt at the tutorial that just didn't turn out right. In my frustration, I started warping it at random, and this was the result. I really think it looks like a person, what do you see?
[[Download Straight Swirl Brush]] *This was an attempt at making an art Brush for Adobe Illustrator. After a little experimenting with the brush, if you would like to maintain the shape pictured above, it is best to use a straight line path. Any other shaped path will produce an abstract shape.
[[Download Swirl Cluster Brushes]] *This was my last work done using the tutorial above. It has been made into 2 or 3 brushes for use in Adobe Illustrator. They were made with CS3, so I'm not sure if they would be compatible with previous versions. You're more than welcome to try them out!
[[Download Swirly Pattern Brush]] *This was my favorite out of the lot of things made using the tutorial. I really liked the swirls I achieved here and the use of the colors! This was made into a pattern brush, meaning it will repeat along whatever path it is applied to.

Gradient Obsession?
Most know what I'm talking about when I ramble about gradients. For those that don't, a gradient is a blend between 2 or more colors, and there are a host of applications for them in graphics.
I'm mildly obsessed with them, especially for my "fun" graphics, that I make to get an idea out of my system, or just because I think they're cute/funny/etc. ^_^
So here is a set of 5 that I've made for you to enjoy! I have sets for Corel PSP XI and Adobe PS CS3. Will they work with other versions? Maybe, I couldn't tell you, as these are the only two versions of these programs I have...So I have also included a PNG pack in the downloads so you may create the gradient in your program of choice.
That being said, these gradients are liscensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported license. Please visit this page (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/) for more information. So though you might make them in your own program, they still fall under this license.

Little Black Skulls - Freebie!
Last night I was inspired by my desktop wallpaper to make some cute little cartoon-y black skulls. Then, I gave them some headgear. ^_^
There are 4 graphics included in the download, in PNG file format, so most editing programs should open them!

Welcome to Crimson Ecstasy @ Blogspot!
Welcome to Crimson Ecstasy Graphics, now also on Blogspot!
Here you will find a little bit of everything, from my personal insights on life, to the more important things, like freebie supplies for Paint Shop Pro XI and Photoshop CS3, freebie digital scraps, and some full kits for sale!
A little bit of background:
Crimson Ecstasy Graphics was named after a poem I wrote in High School. I cannot find the whole peice to this day, that is the the only phrase from it that I remember. I started a MySpace Profile by the same name in December of 2006, offering custom freebie tags, snags, and layouts to the MySpace community.
I have since branched out to include a CafePress Shop (Crimson Ecstasy Designs), a website (MyCrimsonEcstasy.com) and now this blog! I am hoping to keep the ball rolling here in 2008, make some new freinds and create some great graphics!
On a more personal note, my name is Katie, and I am married to a US Army soldier, stationed in Ft. Campbell Kentucky since October of 2006. I am about to be 21 next week, and a SAHM to a wonderfull little man, who is my whole world. I am mommy to a few fur-babies too, and a tank full of fish. ^_^ Aside from graphics, I enjoy writing fantasy fiction, crocheting, beading, sewing, and paper scrapping!
Hopefully you all enjoy my work, and keep comming back to see the new things!
Hope ya'll have a great day!
